Kawasaki Z1000SX - Service manual > Blank Key Detection (Service Code 36, Equipped Models)
- This code appears in the following conditions.
- The transponder [A] in the ignition key is malfunction.
- When the spare ignition key of unregistration is used.
- When the ignition key is registered in the registered ECU.
- Therefore, the service code 36 will disappear when the above issue is solved.
Ignition Key Inspection
- Register the ignition key correctly (see Key Registration in the
Electrical System chapter).
If the service code 36 appears again, the transponder in the key is malfunction, replace it.
Immobilizer System Circuit
- Fuse Box
- Ignition Fuse 15 A
- Meter Ground
- Frame Ground
- ECU
- Ignition Switch
- Immobilizer Antenna
- Immobilizer Amplifier
- Meter Unit
- Oil Pressure/FI/Immobilizer Warning Indicator Light (LED)
- Relay Box
- ECU Main Relay
- FI Fuse 15 A
- Main Fuse 30 A
- Battery 12 V 8 Ah
- Immobilizer/Kawasaki Diagnostic System Connector
- Water-proof Joint C
ECU Communication Error (Service Code 39)
ECU Communication Line Inspection
- When the data is not sent from the ECU to the meter unit for more than about 10 seconds, the service code 39 is displayed.
- The service code 39 is detected with meter unit.
- Remove the ECU and meter unit, check the wiring for continuity between
main harness connector.
- Disconnect the ECU and meter unit connectors.
Wiring Inspection
ECU Connector [A] ←→ Meter Unit Connector [B]
W/R lead (ECU terminal 31) [C]
If the wiring is good, check the meter unit (see Meter Unit Inspection in the Electrical System chapter).
If the meter unit is normal, replace the ECU (see ECU Removal/Installation).

Antenna Resistance Inspection Turn the ignition switch OFF. Remove the left lower fairing (see Lower Fairing Removal in the Frame chapter). Remove the band [A]. Disconnect the antenna lead connector [A]. Measure the antenna resistance.
